The books you love, made usable again
I'm Ruth, a bookbinder in Durham, North Carolina. I fix the books with family history in them: the ones that get read, reread, and handed down.
My work is fabric book repair and protective archival cases: hinges, spines, loose and torn pages, dust jackets, and archival cases that hold fragile books exactly as they are. My estimate ranges are published right on this site.
Sometimes the best repair is a box. If your book shows a lifetime of use and you want to keep it that way, you don't have to fix every flaw. The wear is part of the story. An archival case protects the book exactly as it is, wear and all, and it can be the whole order.
How it works
Tell me what you see. Send photos and describe the book in plain words. You don't need to know what's wrong. That's my job.
Approve your invoice. A photo estimate range up front, a final invoice after inspection. Nothing happens without your approval.
Get your book back. After your final invoice is paid, I'll give you a start date. Your book ships back about 3 to 5 weeks after work begins, by mail or local pickup.
