How It Works

1

Request. Start with the request form: send photos and a plain-words description of your book. You'll get a photo estimate range.

2

Deposit. To get on the schedule, pay the deposit invoice: $50 for the first book, $25 for each additional book in the same box. The deposit is non-refundable and comes off your final total if you move forward. It covers your inspection, reserves your spot in the inspection schedule, and round-trip Media Mail if you choose it.

3

Send or drop off. Ship your book (see below) or bring it by appointment.

4

Inspection. I examine the book in hand and send a final invoice with the repairs needed, for your review and approval.

5

Payment. The final invoice is due within 7 days. Once it's paid, I'll give you a start date, and your book will be done about 3 to 5 weeks after that.

6

Return. When the work is done, I'll send you a short video of the finished book for your feedback. Then it ships back to you by your preferred shipping method.

While your book is here

Books are kept in a studio with controlled temperature and humidity.

My studio carries business insurance, including coverage for customer books in my care up to $10,000 total. For a rare or deeply sentimental book, you may want your own coverage while it's away from home.

Sending your book

Pack the book well and we'll sort out shipping together. I can often estimate the weight from your photos and arrange free USPS pickup from your house.

Your deposit covers both Media Mail labels, coming and going, if you choose that option. Standard shipping isn't insured. Allow 2 to 8 business days in transit; West Coast customers should expect the longer end.

For a high-value or deeply sentimental book, my number one recommendation is USPS Registered Mail: declare its value and hand it to a clerk at the post office. I'll return it the same way, with the return postage on your deposit invoice.
